      <image:title>Current Season - I WANT A COUNTRY</image:title>
<image:caption>A group of people no longer feel their country offers them safety, nor that it values them. They begin a search for a new land where they can build their ideas and dreams into reality. Our new production of the play "I Want a Country", explores the universal human desire for a place of belonging through the unique voices of a theatrical chorus. Written by Andreas Flourakis, one of Greece’s most acclaimed contemporary playwrights, the play delves into the individual and collective stories of immigrants. Each character presents their reasons for seeking or creating a new country, driven by war, poverty, persecution, and the quest for a better life. The narrative asks profound questions: What is this new country? What should it be like? Is it the same for everyone? Is it perhaps no more than a utopian dream? <image:title>Past Projects - 2020 - Fun Fast Feb Fest 2020</image:title>
<image:caption>A short-play festival involving 12 works in competition for a grand prize. The only judge? The Audience! TeamTheatre served as producers and co-artists to generate 3 nights of fun, fast theatre, housed at the Greek Cultural Center in Astoria. The twelve plays of the Fun Fast Feb Fest were a melting pot of serious and comedic pieces that explore the whole spectrum of human experience from friendship to social anxiety, from cultural differences to relationships, from gender to love, to loss, to how to split the check at dinner! All 10-minutes plays were written, directed, produced and acted by people from all over the world (USA, Greece, Italy, Philippines, Korea, England, Puerto Rico, Germany, Cyprus, Lebanon, Australia). <image:title>Past Projects - 2021 - Fun Fast Feb Fest 2021</image:title>
<image:caption>Fun Fast Feb Fest was created in 2020 with the aim of giving visibility to new voices in the international playwriting landscape. TeamTheatre is determined not to let the pandemic stop us from reprising it: each play will be produced and professionally videotaped with the help of TeamTheatre, and will be broadcasted via Zoom on February 14th and February 15th at 6pm EST. Our 2021 edition has received an overwhelming amount of submissions, and it was extremely challenging to pick the 6 plays that will perform on February 14th. Among these pieces, 3 will be selected - through audience vote - to pass onto the finals on February 15th for a chance to win the award for “Best Production”. Other awards will be given as well such as “Best Script” and “Best Performer”. Out of more than fifty submissions, TeamTheatre selected the following works: Radio Hour by Laurel Andersen, White Boots by Regina Carregha and Mouna Soualem, Whatever Here Is by Herbert Benjamin, DEAR by Madeline Conway, Things Are Going Swimmingly by Nadine Dinc and Welcome, You Are Dead by Russell Legaspi. Join TeamTheatre’s virtual stage on February 14th and February 15th for an evening of love and art! DATES: Feb. 14: 6pm EST Feb 15: 6pm EST</image:caption>

<image:caption>On May 9, 2020, a company called The Hustling Creative held a virtual concert marathon which featured exciting performances and interactive classes by movement artists across the United States. The proceeds of this concert were given to RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault violence organization. We interviewed Alex Palting, the Founder of The Hustling Creative, to talk more about her company and the project “Artists Against Domestic Violence.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Hustling Creative: Artists Against Domestic Violence</image:title>
<image:caption>5. What were the goals of this project? We wanted to raise money and awareness for the individuals trapped in domestic violence situations. Our subgoals were that we wanted to highlight the similarities between the need for safety at home and safety in the arts by involving theatrical intimacy directors, stage combatants and poets and activists. We also knew that artists were hungry to make new work, forge new connections, and feel that they were creating something meaningful and important for a larger audience. 6. Is there another project that we should be looking forward to for the future? Due to the fundraisers we’ve hosted, we’re actually now being hired as event producers! We offer entertainment coordination and project strategy. One of our contracts right now is supporting the City of Charleston as they fundraise for small, POC- and women-owned businesses as they recover from COVID and the looting that has taken place there. We have a few nonprofit clients on the horizon as well. I will also be keynoting a conference in Maryland once all this blows over. Jax and I were also asked to speak on a stage combat panel taking place online soon. Day-to-day, the company is helping artists with their brand and marketing strategy and designing websites and logos. We are also offering business strategy coaching, working one-on-one with artists who are using this time to start their own businesses. Finally, we’re using this time to prepare for a future after COVID. Our goal is that as artistic companies rebuild, they do so with diversity, consent, and accessibility as their pillars, not just afterthoughts.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Hustling Creative: Artists Against Domestic Violence - Interview with Alex Palting</image:title>
<image:caption>1. What is your company, The Hustling Creative, all about? The Hustling Creative was created to bridge the gap between the knowledge of a formal education and the wisdom to actually apply it. I started the company when I was twenty-three (I graduated with a music degree when I was twenty-one), because I was frustrated that colleges prepare artists so little for realities of making a living making art. Although I was taught the difference between major and minor scales, I was not taught the emotional elasticity necessary to getting rejected for a living while being vulnerable in auditions. Although I was taught how to sing piano and forte, I was not taught how to project confidence onstage with the knowledge that aspects of my personality, skill, and physical appearance would be subject to private and printed scrutiny. Additionally, I felt that I needed more guidance on what financial planning looks like, as well as how to navigate professional partnerships and what it means to be a leader not just onstage but off. But most importantly, I needed to know how to come up with my own idea of what success looks like and the tools to make that future for myself. Ironically, I found that creativity in the business world and not in my training as an artist. Particularly for young people, people of color, and women in the arts, a mindset of luck and scarcity is ubiquitous. We’re taught that we’re lucky just for the opportunity to do what we love, we should be thankful for being given the time of day by “powerful people,” and unless you have a union to protect you, it is common to take work for no pay (I have never worked for free, but I’ve definitely worked for dirt cheap). These mindsets are toxic and I wanted another, more sustainable, more equitable, option. I want to retire. I want a family. I want equal opportunity, recognition and pay to my white, male colleagues. Most importantly, I want it for all the artists I work with, and all the artists who will come after me. I started a business because if I want those things, I have to go get them.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Katherine Sciortino on ‘Snowed In’</image:title>
<image:caption>1. What inspired you to write “Snowed In?” Snowed In was inspired by two things: the word “Guilt” and my love for dramatic twists. I knew I wanted my play to have a twist in the end so I decided to put my own spice on the classic “he’s been dead the whole time” trope. I used the world guilt to slowly build my script. Jason’s monologue was the first thing I wrote since it’s the part of the play that screams “guilt”. As I wrote the beginning of the play, I left subtle hints to create a feeling of uncertainty for the audience since what they’re seeing isn’t reality. 2. What were the challenges that you faced while writing this script? While writing the script for Snowed In, my biggest challenge was self-censorship. Unfortunately, my learning environment favors escapism and tends to avoid sensitive topics such as suicide and LGBTQ rights. While I was writing Snowed In, I constantly asked myself “Is this too much?” but one email later, I felt the freedom to express what I wanted in my work and basically say “I want to write it so I will”.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - FRANCO-TURK ACTOR THRIVES AS THE PHANTOM IN TURKISH TOUR</image:title>
<image:caption>In this fast-paced, magical, and ambitiously abridged version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Phantom Of The Opera, produced by Cloud Theatre, there is little doubt that Emile Aslan Lacheny reaches the absolute peak of excellence. Lacheny shines in this role, bringing the charming and elegant demeanor that Webber’s version of this character requires in order to be successful. It’s also nice to see an actor of French origins portray a character that is rooted in French literature. People will always associate Phantom of the Opera with Britain because of the stage show, but Cloud Theatre honors the character’s origins by casting a French actor in the lead. And they couldn’t have cast the role better. I would love to see Lecheny perform lead roles in other musical theatre shows, particularly as Enjolras or Marius in Les Miserables or as Sweeney in Sweeney Todd. He not only has the voice for such roles but his character work is outstanding.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Theatre Artists local and abroad have faced numerous challenges. From balancing day jobs with several projects to juggling mental health and self-care in this overflowing data-driven world. Productivity was rising, engagements were trending and hustling was at its peak, a paradise in broad daylight; but what loomed on the horizon cast a shadow on the majority. Get to know Cha See and how she and her fellow artists, light a path for the ones in the dark through See Lighting Foundation. Can you introduce yourself and where are you right now in the endeavor you are pursuing? My name is Cha and my last name is See. I am Cha See, a freelance lighting designer for stage and environmental installations. I am from Manila, Philippines (born and raised) and I currently live in Brooklyn, New York As a lighting designer, what do you look for in a project? As a lighting designer I look for stories that have a sense of urgency or forms of activism. A story that is universal and that could be told with any diverse spectators. Was there a moment in your life that made you decide, “I want to be a lighting designer”? When I was in college, I started being an actor. The director of our drama club told me that I was not a good enough actor and he presented me an opportunity to light “Once on This Island”. I said yes, not knowing what I was signing up for. I fell in love with it instantaneously. The experience was like learning a language you have no idea exists, and later find yourself speaking it and loving it. Most challenging project you’ve been part of? Every project that I have been part of presents a different challenge. But one of the most challenging projects is WHAT TO SEND UP WHEN IT GOES DOWN by Aleshea Harris and directed by Whitney White. The story is non linear and it presented new ways of thinking how to tell a story in the most stylized way. Most fun project? The project that is the most challenging is almost the most fun, WHAT TO SEND UP WHEN IT GOES DOWN. It was a “family” experience. We were in it through the ups and the downs of the storytelling. Any fun fact about you? I snore like a dolphin. I understand that you have a foundation; can you tell us more about this? The See Lighting Foundation helps 60 theatre artists who are under O1 or OPT visas including myself during this pandemic. We give $500 to each artist on a monthly basis. What made you pursue this advocacy? The lack of resources for immigrant artists at this time of crisis. I needed to do something so I can pay rent and buy food. The same goes for the rest of us in See Lighting Foundation. I cannot wait anymore, I needed to do something and I think that was the start. What do you hope to accomplish with the foundation? We are still raising funds at the moment. We hope to cover five more months of monthly donations to all artists. As of right now we are only covered for the month of August. My hope and dream is to cover the next five months, this way I can assure everyone in the list that they will surely receive monthly financial aid. Any challenges facing your foundation? Yes, I was not trained to raise money nor my partners Kimie Nishikawa (set designer) and Rodrigo Muñoz (costume designer). We are doing this slowly and surely because we really do not know what we are doing! Another challenge is talking to rich and powerful people. So many have ignored us and shut their doors on us. This is challenging because we are not a non-profit and not 501(c3), hence big donors are not interested. Although some big donors are on the way with more donations, but in all honesty this is not enough. Where do you see the foundation going? I see it moving forward by having more people in the list. As of right now we can only help 60 people and we have people who are in the waitlist. My dream is to help 100 immigrant theatre artists until the theatre doors re-open again. How has the pandemic affected you and your endeavors? It has affected me mentally and emotionally. All my shows were cancelled until mid 2021. It affected me in a way that I lost my sense of purpose. My whole life here I designed it in such a way that I live for being a lighting designer. And now that this is gone temporarily, I needed another sense of purpose on why I am living. I needed to wake up and get excited for my day. I am glad I founded See Lighting Foundation. But it also meant that like everyone else I have hit another rock bottom. What do you do when you are not doing theatre? I serve at our local café in Brooklyn (under the table) and I am busy doing all the finances for See Lighting Foundation. I enjoy being with my dog Duncan and my partner Sarah, we love going to parks and being goofy. As a final shoutout how would you invite people to your foundation? We need help more than ever. Stop being an ally level it up by being an accomplice. I say this with urgency. I encourage everyone for their active participation helping us who are in need. The stage will light up soon and it starts with every one playing their part, and Cha is one of many, stretching her hand to help artists walk through the heavy clouds of uncertainty. <image:title>Blog - Review: RnJ and All's Well</image:title>
<image:caption>1. How have you been holding up during the pandemic? Okay I guess? It’s hard to tell. These past two years have felt like a blur of days with lots of very slow moments. I’m a preschool teacher and have been working on and off. During the early days of lockdown I got very into birdwatching because it was a meditative solo outdoor activity that I could do safely. Like a lot of people, I cycled through various crafting activities and tried everything from embroidery to jewelry making to resin crafting. And most recently I’ve been learning about foraging. All in all trying to focus on getting from day to day and moment to moment and finding bits of joy to balance out the looming existential dread.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Andrea Stein Shines As Christine Daaé</image:title>
<image:caption>Very rarely does one get the chance to meet and talk with an artist who appears to be born for the role they’re playing. Just as Hugh Jackman appears to be born to play Wolverine, and Rami Malek appeared to literally bring Freddie Mercury back to life, Andrea Stein seems to have been born to play Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s celebrated adaptation of The Phantom Of The Opera. The production, commissioned by Cloud Theatre - a professional English-speaking touring theatre company in Turkey - perfectly embodied everything that the classic tale represents: love, jealousy, magic, and the supernatural. Indeed, whenever Stein opened her mouth to release the beautiful sounds that the music expresses, there isn’t a better word than magical to describe its impact.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - StarSweeper Interview: Gwendolyn Snow</image:title>
<image:caption>1. How have you been holding up during the pandemic? It’s bittersweet, the need for art and artists is the greatest during these times, but it also becomes more challenging to create. I am one of the lucky ones, I have ridden this thing out with my health, a source of income, and the lives of my friends and loved ones intact. The biggest lesson that I have learned is that I need to do the things that make me fulfilled. Life is short.</image:caption>
